What: FullPower Self Protection WorkshopThis is a 5-hour workshop in which students learn and practice verbal and physical self-protection strategies and techniques on a fully padded instructor. Our extensively trained instructors teach students to defend themselves by using parts of their bodies as weapons and parts of the assailantÂ’s body as target areas.

Film: Dreams of Jagodina

What: Screening of the art film “Dreams of Jagodina”. This poignant and beautiful film provides a rare cross-cultural perspective on the cycle of family violence and how dysfunction can become internalized over generations. Serbian emigre, Susana Jeremic, tells her story of the difficult decision she faced as she entered womanhood: to assume the role of victim in keeping with her family legacy, or to strike out on her own to create a life that is different.

SCAP Speaker

What: Southern Colorado AIDS Project (SCAP) speaker, Teneicka, will tell her own story. Refreshments and an opportunity to interact socially with Teneicka, SCAP staff, and members of the CC community will be available following the presentation. Brought to you by the Office of Sexual Assault Response and Prevention, as part of our Healthy Sexuality programming, together with the student groups BSU and HIV.

Silent Witness

As part of our Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities, the Silent Witness will be on display during the first week of October in the Worner Center. This sillhouette tells the story of one victim who was killed by a domestic partner. On Friday, October 6, the silhouette will be taken to the Pioneers Museum. There will be refreshments, music and information about the costs of domestic violence in our communities, as well as an opportunity to donate to TESSA, the Colorado Springs center for domestic violence and sexual assault.
