About Savannah '12

Name: Savannah Carr-Wilson
Year: 2012
High School: United World College of Southeast Asia
Hometown: Victoria, B.C. (Canada)
Major or intended major:  Unsure: maybe Neuroscience or Political Science (with a focus on International Relations).
favorite quote:
I’m not sure that I have a favorite quote, but I have a favorite poem! “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. It is absolutely brilliant.
campus activities:
IM Volleyball team captain “Team International”
Member of SOSS (Student Organization for Sexual Safety)
I like to go to the Salsa club when I have time
I’m involved with the ORC – I did the Pikes Peak Pancake Hike last block, and right now I am in ORC leadership training
I’m working as a Telerecruiter and training to be a Tour guide starting in 4th block
spare time activities:
If I have spare time, I like to go for runs along the creek, catch movies on campus (there was a great climbing movie earlier this year), go to interesting talks that are happening, spend time with my friends out on the quad lying in the sunshine, catch up with friends from my high school in Singapore who are studying all over the world, or play my guitar.
favorite CC class:
So far, I’ve only taken three classes, but my favorite class was probably the first class I took for my FYE “Introduction to Feminism and Gender Studies”. It took place in the ID house, and there were only 10 people in my class, which made for a really comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere and fostered some really interesting discussions.  I learned a lot of eye-opening things throughout the course, and overall it  was a great start to college at CC.
favorite CC Professor:
All of my professors so far have been great, but the one that stands out is Tonja Olive, who taught my favorite course so far – the “Introduction to Feminism and Gender Studies”. She was witty and dynamic, and pushed us to expand the ways we thought about the world.
plans for study abroad:
I am going to study both French and Spanish at CC, and since I think that study abroad would be a great way to cement my knowledge of the languages, I’d like to do two study abroad’s during my time here. I’d like to study abroad to France next year in the Spring Semester, through the program in Marseilles that focuses on Political Science. In junior year, I am interested in doing a Spanish speaking study abroad in South America, but I’m not sure which country I would like to go to yet.
most memorable block break:
My most memorable block break so far was spent at Baca Campus on a retreat organized by the Chaplain’s office. We went for beautiful walks and hikes, did some rather challenging early morning yoga, visited the hot springs, and visited various interesting religious sights out there, including a Ziggurat and a Buddhist Stupa. The best moments were making s’mores around the campfire on the last night and watching the gorgeous purple and yellow sunsets and sunrises from the roof.
